Walking down my grandparents hallway is a bit like traveling along a timeline. The walls on either side are covered in large frames, a photo collage in each. Squares, ovals, rectangles; each holding some candid memory from holidays blurred together.

A drawing of various black outlined geometric shapes on a black background, including squares, rectangles, circles, and ovals.

The photos aren’t “professional”. They aren’t perfectly composed, the lighting is sketchy, perfection wasn’t the purpose. It was a feeling of wanting to remember this moment, but not wanting the camera to get in the way of life being lived.

Quick photos, taken with love.

In honor of the past and learning from those that came before me I offer the same. A no frills, candid approach that minimizes the amount of time you have to be aware of the camera. My work is an exercise in grasping a little of the present to save for later, to tell the story of who you are to those who are yet to be. It isn’t meant to be flashy or stylish, though we may stumble across a few of those images. I don’t believe in heavy posing so outside of the random artistic idea that stumbles into my head I won’t be directorial. I try to keep it simple, show me what you want me to see. To date I’ve contributed to hundreds of collages for families across the globe. I hope I can document a bit for yours as well.

A wedding couple posing outdoors in front of a modern building with a dome-shaped roof. The bride wears a white wedding gown and holds a bouquet of flowers, while the groom is dressed in a brown suit and sunglasses. The scene is set on a landscaped area with a circular pathway and flower pots.
People gathered around a table at an indoor event, raising their glasses in a toast, with a flower arrangement and wine glasses on the table, and a background of a dark and elegant room.
People holding hands, one person in floral dress with tattoos, and the other in brown suit with brown boots, standing on gravel path.
A young couple sitting on a blanket by a calm river in a forested area during sunset, surrounded by tall grass and trees.

On your day the most important thing you give me is access. I get to be the guest with the best view in town. Ideally we’ll have already met and taken some photos, though that isn’t a requirement. I tend to be very quick taking photos that require your time and attention, I don’t want to distract you from the real purpose of the day (which definitely isn’t photos). While posed photos are a necessity they can be uncomfortable and mentally exhausting for anyone not used to being in front of a camera. My goal is to move through these as quickly as possible so you can go back to enjoying the company of those around you. From there my work is candid: following people around, trying to look inconspicuous, totally not trying to steal their souls and trap them in an image. After all, that is what candid photography is about.

  • I like to have a quick to mid length chat with every couple I book. I want to ensure I’m telling stories that are within my wheelhouse and working with individuals that will feel comfortable with my approach. We can plan this over facetime or zoom shortly after you reach out. From there I’ll send over a link to my client management site where you can fill out everything I’ll need.

  • Leading up to the wedding I tend to be fairly hands off. I’m not a wedding planner, though I do like taking a peak of the schedule a couple weeks before. I’ll also send over a pretty straightforward form to fill out that gives me all the emergency info I may find handy. I’ll want to chat a week before everything just to touch bases and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Once that’s all taken care of, we’re at the day! I’ll focus on candids but will be watching for anyone to flag me down for a quick group photo. We’ll probably have a couple points throughout the day where we focus on pictures:

    1. Groups: these are either with your bridal party if you’re having one or with family members.

    2. Y’all: instead of dedicated chunks of time to take photos I’d rather pull you aside for five minutes here and there whenever the lighting is the best and the right situation arises.

Besides those two points everything will remain focused on whatever you planned for the day. I’ll follow the flow wherever it goes. At the end of the night I’ll pull you aside for a couple quick night portraits, this is one of my favorite times to play around and create something fun.

  • I do all editing personally and this is a seasonal job, so the turnaround time varies. That being said, I try to deliver the full gallery online within 2-4 weeks. Each image is delivered edited in both color and B&W. From there everything is yours!

Lots of photographers use words like candid and we all mean different, yet honest, things. For me it comes down to focusing on the small moments inside of the big ones. Instead of focusing my attention 100% on the two of you for the entirety of the day (which would be exhausting for you) much of my time will be spent wandering around in search of an assortment of stolen moments, knowing glances between loved ones, and maybe a tongue sticking out here and there. I want to tell the story of an entire day, not just the important bits but all the bits bit-ween.
