Christian & Micole // A Monterey Engagement Session ft. Garrapata State Park
The morning was thick with that heavy Pacific mist, the kind that blurs the edges of the Monterey cypress and makes the world feel small and private. Christian and Micole didn’t show up with a shot list or a set of poses to execute. They just showed up as they are.
We spent the hours navigating the narrow, salt-crusted dirt paths of Garrapata State Park. It’s a place that doesn't ask for much, just an appreciation for the sharp drop of the cliffs and the relentless, rhythmic surge of the surf against the rocks. Engagement photography in a place like this is less about directing and more about noticing. There was no pressure to perform for the lens. Instead, there was just the wind pulling at Micole’s hair and the quiet, instinctive way Christian reached for her hand whenever the trail dipped toward the edge of the coast.
As an engagement photographer, I find it isn't about the grand scale of the Monterey coastline, though the jagged horizon was always there. It was about the smaller, sturdier things: the way they leaned into each other when the gusts picked up and the ease of a shared silence against the roar of the ocean. That’s them. Two people finding their own pace on a wild, unhurried coast. Here is a brief excerpt from it.
